Christmas lights are often called fairy lights, but in the USA they can be called ‘twinkle lights’ or holiday lights.

We all know what they are, they’re a string of lights used to decorate buildings and Christmas trees.

Christmas Lights History
It is commonly accepted that the first illuminated Christmas tree was created by an associate of the famous inventor Thomas Edison, a Edward H. Johnson.

Johnson had some Christmas tree lights especially hand-made for in 1882 him which contained 80 red, white and blue lights.

The US President Gover Cleveland in 1895 sponsored the first Christmas tree that was electronically lit at the White House and this started the growth in the use of Christmas tree lights. People then started to adorn other parts of their homes with Christmas lights and now you can get lights for every part of your home.
