The bright people at MoneySuperMarket have told us we’re going to be spending less this year. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist or IFA to know that all the negative “news” that the BBC are coming out with is affecting people’s desire to spend this year.
Inflation is up, people don’t feel secure and unemployment is going up so it it no surprise that people will be spending less? Well apparently the average person (wonder who they are) will spend just £376 from £393 in 2007 – oh so that’s £17 or 4%. So is that a news story?
Head of shopping, Rob Barnes, at the really on the ball, fingers on the pulse of the nation said “”People will be looking for bargains and shopping around for the best deals will be a key feature of this Christmas. Retailers must ensure their prices are as competitive as possible.”
Pure genius! Give the guy a medal! That’s why they’re searching for “Cheap Christmas presents” in their droves and sales of top-spec stuff is down.
I’m bracing myself for another 2 months of this drivel from PR departments up and down the country.
